LIFE DRAWING FAQ's

Who is Life Drawing for?

This is for anybody who wants to enjoy a relaxing evening of Life Drawing, sketching the fascinating human form. The Life Drawing mindset should be fun, expressive and relaxing.

Why do you use real models?

Figure drawing from real life is an authentic way to capture the 3D human figure in our warm, comfortable, cosy, casual room setting.

Can all creative abilities join?

Observational drawing from real life is an essential practise for artists of all skill levels, to capture the life, energy, beauty and emotion of the model.

What if I'm a beginner and haven't drawn for ages?

Enjoy a chilled evening with new artist models posing weekly, with a backdrop of the beautiful Swan River evening lights. Unwind in an ambient setting with relaxing tunes as you explore your inner artist. Whether you're a student, beginner or an experienced artist, gather your materials and join us. We are all at various stages of our creative journey.

How long does it take to be proficient at drawing the figure?

Every model is different, as are their poses. With regular practise you will enhance your creative confidence and build upon your technical skills, resulting in vibrant, energetic artwork. All artists need to regularly practice their craft to notice improvements in skill and ability.

What are the benefits of Life Drawing?

Whether you're new to Life Drawing, or a professional artist, sculptor or architect, it's always wonderful practise to sketch and draw the curves and valleys of a real human form. Human anatomy is very complex and requires an understanding of the bone structure and muscular system to produce accurate drawings which takes practice. Drawing is relaxing and good for the soul, so enjoy the process and the journey.

What materials should I bring?

In terms of equipment, bring a sketchbook, paper or something to draw on. Pencils, black fine liners, markers, charcoal, chalk or oil pastels or whatever you prefer to draw with. There are limited drawing materials are available as well as A2 drawing boards and clips provided by Arts Inc.

In our relaxed drawing sessions there's no pressure of judgement, just a chilled studio atmosphere to Sketch and Sip to background music. With every session you will increase your creative skills and develop techniques to draw more accurately as you investigate the human form.

Strictly NO photography!

Bring with you your favourite sketchbook plus a variety of the art materials you love to use and find your spot in the room. We are restricted by numbers so please make sure you book in advance:
